Energize Delaware Residential Solar Loan

To qualify for the Energize Delaware Solar Loan, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Delaware Resident: Applicants must be a resident of Delaware.
• Property Ownership: The applicant must be the property owner and the property must be owner-occupied. Eligible properties include detached or attached one to four unit residences (such as duplexes and townhomes). Commercial properties are not eligible.
• Minimum Credit Score: A minimum credit score of 650 is required.
• Debt-to-Income Ratio: The maximum monthly debt-to-income ratio is 50%. Applicants must provide proof of income based on their employment status. Acceptable forms of proof include:
  • Employed: Submit the past three months of pay stubs.
  • Self-Employed: Provide a copy of your most recent tax return.
  • Retired: Submit Social Security Statements, Pension Statements, Retirement Account Statements, Annuity Statements or other forms of retirement income.

The proposed system must meet the following criteria:

• The system must be grid-connected.
• The array is eligible if oriented between 80° and 280°. Any array installed between 280° and 80° are not eligible and must be excluded from the total project cost.
• The tilt is equal to the latitude at the installation site, although the program accepts array tilt as specified by the module manufacturer, which may vary from the latitude.
• The array meets the minimum daily sunshine requirements, meaning a Solar Shade Analysis must confirm that the Total Solar Resource Fraction is 70% or above.
• The total project cost cannot exceed $6.00 per installed watt of generation.

Solar Loan Application Process:

The property owner must initiate their loan application online at www.energizedelawareloans.org. The applicant can authorize their contractor to update some steps of the loan application, including system information and project cost details, on their behalf. The authorized contractor will not have access to any sensitive information.

The Energize Delaware Solar Loan application is a two part process.

Part One:

Part One must be submitted before work begins. If a system is interconnected before Part One is submitted and approved by program administration, it will be automatically disqualified from the program.
After Part One is submitted, program administration will review the loan application. If approved, both the applicant and contractor will receive an official Approval Letter via email, at which point installation can begin.

Part Two:

Part Two must be submitted after the system is interconnected and within six months of Part One approval.
Once Part Two is submitted, program administration will review the Project Completion Documents. After review, funds will be disbursed to the contractor, and the applicant will receive an email notification. This email will include their first statement date, monthly payment amount, and additional details.

To become a Participating Contractor with the Energize Delaware Solar Loan program, the contractor must pay a one-time initiation fee of $100. Program Administration will request a DE Business License and Professional Electrician License. We reserve the right to request installation training and/or certification programs the Contractor has attended, along with a copy of all certificates or other proof of training and examination.

A survey may be sent to any applicant after their loan is disbursed, covering both program design and administration, as well as their experience with the Participating Contractor. Contractors who do not consistently provide excellent customer service may be considered for removal from the program at the SEU’s sole discretion.

How long do I have to complete my project?
You have up to six months after you receive your eligibility letter to complete your project and submit all part two documents.
